Abrassame - Views and Good Food
Las Arenas used to be a bullfighting arena, and has now been beautifully restored into a shopping center. If you go all the way up to the top floor and outside, you will find a 360-degree terrace with great views all over the city. Especially the views over the Montjuïc fountains are breathtaking.
But guess what? They have interesting restaurants too! I visited one of them, Abrassame, and I was so impressed! Their focus is on the grill, but there is plenty of interesting items on the menu to discover.
The space is large and consist of several areas, each with a different atmosphere. You can sit outside on the terrace, by the beautiful bar or at the tables next to it, or in the cosy area with bookcases filled with wines that reminds me of a lovely wine bar. We chose the last one, it was so inviting and also with the scorching heat outside it provided a cool refuge.
We had PLENTY to eat at Abrassame, and I believe we sat there for more than three hours, and they passed by in a whim. My favourite thing in the world are lunches that linger. We had wine excellent wine pairings with the dishes, carefully and perfectly chosen by the staff.
I will let the photos talk for themselves, but I can say this: I really, thoroughly enjoyed each course. My favourite was the paella, but almost all of the dishes were favourites really; the goat-cheese filled grilled vegetables, the vegetable canelón, the enormous oysters, the fried brie with sesame and kumquat jelly, the bluefin tuna and of course the desserts... There was a chocolate fondant with caramel cream that was so amazingly chewy and gooey, and it came with Maldon salt and toasted almond ice cream. Perfection! Our other dessert was equally fantastic: a white chocolate ganache with mango cream, passion fruit and Oreo twist.
Due to the location of the restaurant you might not have high expectations, but you really do miss out on a fantastic experience if you pass on this one. The quality of the food is excellent and the service so friendly. I also loved the fact that many of the dishes are paired on the menu with interesting drinks in case you are not up for wine, beer or cava.
I am a big fan of pleasant surprises like Abrassame. Go and find out for yourself, you will not be disappointed!
