We were invited to Alma Hotel the other night to enjoy their Thursday jazz evening, the Alma Music Dinner. What a pleasant evening it was! I hadn't visited Alma before even though they are very centrally located (on Mallorca, just by Paseo de Gracia), but I had heard about their beautiful terrace.
The dinner is set in a beautiful space. It's not your typical dining room, the furniture is comfortable and the tables are far apart so that you have some privacy. It all feels very casual but stylish. I fell madly in love with the tableware! Especially the ones you can see in the pictures of the beans and the canelón.
Let's talk about the food. Because it's really worth talking about. The fabulous chef Nuria Girones from top restaurant Ca l'Isidre was the genius behind it, and it was simply fabulous. Each dish was beautiful and had that Ca l'Isidre signature, but with a modern and cool twist (without being even the slightest bit stiff).
The Music dinner includes a tasting menu and live music for 39€. It's a very good deal. You can skip the tasting menu too and choose from their standard menu if you prefer.
The tasting menu consisted of an aperitif, three starters to share, a main (to choose between a fish and a meat dish), a dessert and finally coffee and petit fours. My favorites in the menu were the smoked sardines with beetroot and green apple, the truffled canelón and the dessert: strawberry infused berries with yogurt foam.
The music was lovely (a group called Aire) and discreet, just the perfect sound level so that you were able to continue talking with your dinner partner. The staff is great too, also discreet, professional and very friendly.
I truly enjoyed the experience at Alma, and I can really recommend it. It's a high quality experience throughout, every detail is perfect. Check out their Facebook page for their events. It's a wonderful way to spend a Thursday evening.
