2015 is coming to an end and I want to celebrate it with a list of what my culinary year has been like. Here are my favorites this year!
Favorite restaurants overall
Santa Gula. It just has that something. It’s small, the food is so tasty and it’s seasonal. The menu changes every now and then and that keeps it interesting.
Mont Bar. Every dish is perfect and the service is great.
La Estrella. It feels like such a treat to go here. The owner is a gem and when he tells you about all the specials (which are maaany) you can’t decide which one you want.
Ca l’Isidre. It’s old, it’s authentic, and it’s delicious. The service is impeccable and the food is spectacular.
La Taverna del Clinic. I like to go for the dishes to share, because I want to try as much as possible. It’s not cheap but it’s worth every cent.
Can Dendê. It’s tiny but the brunch menu is interesting and the pancakes unforgettable.
Tropico. A newcomer with a beautiful space and picture-perfect tasty food. Read more about it here.
Picnic. Their brunch never fails. And the vodka-infused pink lemonades are just perfect..!
Favorite home delivery
Sushi Shop. I discovered this place quite recently but I’ve ordered from there already several times. They have a good, interesting selection and hasn’t failed so far.
Vitali Pizza. Artisan pizzas, and I’m seriously addicted to their 4-cheese pizza.
Gandhi. Great indian food, big portions.
Green & Berry. My healthy addiction. I really like their juices, their acai bowls, the gluten-free baked goods and their avocado toast is amazing.
Väcka. A tiny, new little place in Gracia, but well worth getting to know. It’s vegan and you can find a lot of raw and gluten-free options. I love their waffles with rawtella, banana and coconut..!
The Juice House. Their brunch is great! And it's one of the few places in the city where you can get wheatgrass shots.
Black truffle tiramisu at Mont Bar. Fantastic.
The grilled octopus with plankton at Casa Mari y Rufo.
Morels in a foie gras sauce in La Taverna del Clinic. Wow. Equally as memorable were the morels with poached egg at Santa Gula.
Favorite authentic restaurants
La Cova Fumada. I am helplessly in love and I’ve visited this place quite a few times in 2015.
Casa Mari y Rufo. They’ve stepped up their game this year and interesting things are on offer on the menu.
Freiduria de Pauli. Tiny, hilarious staff, amazing spider crab.
Pijama. The burger patty has that home-made feel to it.
Black Lab. Wow. Their burger is enormous, and so tasty. And the fries… Beer-battered fries….
Chivuo’s. They make a mean burger and the Chivuo’s fries are so tasty.
Santa Gula. I adore their lemon merengue pie and the cheesecake with passion fruit.
Caravelle. Their cheesecake and banana split that both come in a jar… No words.
Jaime Beriestain. Wow wow wow. You can't go wrong with these desserts. Banoffee pie anyone?
Wer-Haus is a concept store but it’s menu is very interesting, you can’t find anything quite like it in Barcelona. Good veggie options too.
Restaurants I wish I would have visited
Mano Rota. It looks amazing and I really am bummed I didn’t take time to go there yet.
La Esquina. The hype about this place is ginormous and I really want to go there and find out what it’s all about. I can’t wait!
Big Al’s. People were going in hordes from Barcelona to this burger place in Sitges, and since a few months they have their place here in Barcelona too. And I haven’t been yet!
So that was my 2015 in a nutshell. Soon to come: my plans for eating in 2016. Can't wait for what the year has in store!
