Cal Pep - A Born Classic
This place is an institution in Barcelona. It’s popular with tourists but don’t let that scare you off, locals love it too. When it opens at lunchtime the bar fills up to the brim, but if you can you should head for the dining room and get a table there. You might have to share it with someone, but don’t worry, after a bottle of wine or so you can even make some new friends..!
There is no menu (at least I haven’t seen one) but the waiter asks for any preferences or dislikes and then starts serving you plate after plate of tasty tapas. So good!
IN A NUTSHELL
Atmosphere: Fun and lively. One of the waiters is hilarious (helps if you know a bit of Spanish though). He’s worked there for 25 years or so and you can see how much he loves his work.
Recommended: The potato tortilla is probably the best I’ve ever had. The clams are great too.
Specifics: The tapas change according to what’s fresh and in season.
Reservations: Book if you want to have a table in the back (instead of sitting by the bar).
