Josephine - Beautiful Place, Beautiful Food
Most of us locals are familiar with Josephine. It is a bar and a restaurant in Eixample, just a street away from Paseo de Gracia, that lights up the neighbourhood with its beautiful lush green terrace.
Josephine opens early in the morning for those looking for a calm breakfast, and picks up the pace for lunch when a generous lunch deal (menu del día) is served.
The lunch deal is excellent: you get three (!) dishes AND a dessert. When I visited for lunch I had a watermelon soup as a first course, I chose razor clams as a second course and finally Alaskan salmon with vegetables as a main course.
I was surprised by, and really appreciated the fact that all courses came at once. When you are having a menu del día you are often in a hurry, and don't have time to sit for too long. This solution is perfect, and the portion sizes aren't overwhelming either. The menu, both the lunch deal and the dinner menu is Mediterranean inspired with French flairs.
The afternoons at Josephine are perfect for a cup of coffee, or a drink. In the evenings Josephine invites for dinner, and there is often live music too!
