The Boqueria is interesting and all, but after you’ve seen it a couple of times you tend to avoid it because it’s filled with tourists and pickpockets. But there’s a place in there that’s well worth the trouble. My favorite thing ever on Saturday mornings is to have lots of good seafood for brunch, and Kiosko Universal delivers.
It looks like a bar with high chairs to sit on. You can’t just sit on any chair that becomes available though, you need to go to the cashier and let the staff know how big your party is, and then wait for them to tell you when there’s space available for you. Even though it’s very popular you normally don’t have to wait for very long. The food is fresh, mostly seafood, and just perfect with a glass of chilled, white wine.
IN A NUTSHELL:
Atmosphere: Smack in the middle of the Boqueria it’s busy and hectic, but once you sit down you forget about the stress and enjoy your seafood and chilled glass of white wine. I love to go there on a Saturday morning for a seafood brunch.
Recommended: Everything is fresh and tasty, so it’s difficult to choose anything in particular. I like to go for the scallops and the razor clams.
Specifics: Even if you see empty chairs don’t sit down! Go first to the counter, where the checkout is, and they staff will let you know when it’s your turn.
Reservations: You can’t make a reservation, it’s quite busy but have patience, it’s worth it
