Manglar - a Cosy Jungle Bistro

I love my plants and my apartment is filled with them. I have an urban jungle heart and therefore have a big soft spot for restaurants and bars that have a lot of plants. Manglar is just that kind of place, and it caught my attention already before it opened.

It has a plant-filled terrace, and inside there are monsteras and palms sharing the space with beautiful furniture, both new and second hand. There are lots of details that catches the attention, I adore places like this.

But Manglar is more than meets the eye. Behind the restaurant and the food there is a philosophy that I find very attractive. Juan, one of the owners, explains how crucial he finds the right food for good health. The team behind Manglar have been studying different diets for years, and come to the conclusion that what is most important is cooking everything from scratch, not using anything processed and prioritising local, seasonal and fresh ingredients.

The menu? Everything you might have hoped for and more. Here the Mediterranean joins forces with the Latin American for fun and flavourful dishes. They open early morning to serve breakfast and brunch, and good quality coffee from Nomad. Lunch is a casual deal with an array of options. As if that wasn't enough, there is dinner too..! All the dishes are marked for intolerances and there are many great gluten-free and vegan options.

The idea behind the elaboration of the dishes is using fresh healthy ingredients, and to make everything from scratch to create good quality dishes. And you can really taste it, the food is made with a lot of love and care. Little details like the juices that are made with fresh ingredients and elaborated with a touch of ginger and lime like the beet juice I had make all the difference.

Octopus with parmentier and huancaína at Manglar, Barcelona

Their octopus is divine: so wonderfully tender and with such delectable flavours. I found their eggs with morcilla fascinating and delicious, with a Brazilian air of feijoa and pan de queso (cheese bread). They make their own ricotta (!), they serve local craft beer and wines and they have kombucha..! There are so many things that charm at Manglar.
