Noches Alhambra - When Michelin Stars and Secret Places Unite

Noches Alhambra - When Michelin Stars and Secret Places Unite

Yesterday we had the opportunity to participate in a Michelin-star dinner I wrote about in a previous post here on the blog. The stellar chef Nacho Manzano from Asturias came to visit Barcelona and cooked up a feast in a secret location. The participants got to know the location only a few hours before the event.

The place was La Cuina de la Boqueria, a fairly recently opened space that was huge and so beautiful! I loved the fact that the kitchen was all open and right by the entrance, so you could see the team working and preparing the food. Alhambra beers was responsible for the beer pairings and the beer sommelier Julio Cerezo explained to us between each course what we were drinking and how it paired with each dish. The universe of beer pairings is so fascinating and I was lucky enough to be seated next to Cerezo and could ask him a million questions..!

The food was excellent, as expected. Manzano had prepared seven courses together with his team. Three aperitifs, three main courses and a dessert.  My favorites were amazingly tender artichokes. I love artichokes and these were particularly tasty. Did you know artichokes are very difficult to pair with wine? I had no idea, and the beer pairing with Alhambra Reserva 1925 was perfect. I was also particularly fond of the wild boar, it was so incredibly tender and tasted perfectly together with Alhambra Reserva 1925, a darker and stronger beer that paired well with the strong taste of the meat.

I scoffed down the dessert in two seconds, it was so tasty, and beautiful to look at too. It was a yoghurt cream with a foam of peas (!) and basil. It was perfectly light to finish off the meal with.

I loved the event: the space was gorgeous, the food was excellent and the atmosphere was great. These kind of opportunities are few and far between, and they are well worth taking advantage of!
