Il Birrino - What a Well-Kept Secret!
It was love at first sight. I had heard tiny little rumours about Il Birrino, but not very much, it seems to be that kind of a place that people love so much they want to keep it a secret. When we arrived I totally understood why. This humble bar is the cutest, cosiest and simply loveliest I have seen in a while.
The bar is fairly small, decorated with second hand furniture, comfortable arm chairs and homey tables. The staff is so friendly and it feels like stepping into someones living room.
Craft beer and good, home-made Italian food rule here. There are several taps to choose from, and plenty of bottles and cans in the fridge. Should you not be into craft beer there is obviously wine too, these guys are Italian after all..!
The food is wonderfully comforting: the menu is written on a black board and you can choose between tasty first courses, different pastas (their lasagna is supposed to be excellent), mains and of course desserts. The pasta is made right there in front of you: the pasta machine is on the bar..! Obviously this adds to all the charm.
On our visit we had clams with beans as a starter, the sauce was so flavourful and perfect to be picked up with a piece of fresh focaccia, and a dish with baby squids and vegetables. Fresh and tasty. The pasta course was ravioli with mascarpone and artichoke, so very dreamy. The dessert was perfection: chocolate ganache with a hint of Bailey's.
Il Birrino oozes of charm and I really recommend a visit. It's the perfect place to hang with friends and for a cosy date night.
