Guest Post: Most Unique Shops in Barcelona
I have been following Letizia Tisserand (@letiziabcn) on Instagram for ages, and she also has her own beautiful and inspiring blog, check it out here. She always finds the most adorable places, and I’m addicted to her Stories! I asked if she could be so kind to make a list of her favourite shops, and she did: here is her list of the coolest and most pretty, charming and unusual shops of the city!
Text and photos by Letizia Tisserand
Carolina Blue - A home decoration shop with a rustic touch selling clothes, lamps, textile and accessories. To be honest I never bought anything here because it’s a bit expensive, but I love visiting now and then, they have beautiful things, and the space is distributed and decorated with so much good taste, there are plants and the furniture is beautiful too. I get very inspired by pastel colors, and I always dream about one day winning the lottery and buying a house: I’ll be going straight to Carolina Blue..! Carrer Dr. Dou, 11, (Raval).
Marea Verde - A beautiful shop specialising in terrariums and kokedama (an ancient Japanese technique that is very popular right now: they are plants that grow on a large ball of moss), and it is hidden on a small street in the Gótico. It’s perfect for adding a little bit of green to our lives, and do some interior decoration with a bit of style! The shop is small but has a lot of charm, with plants everywhere. Here I often go to buy presents, such as a cactus or a beautiful plant. Carrer d’en Rull, 3 (Gotico).
Home On Earth - To step into Home on Earth is like going on a trip to a very zen and relaxed country. You can easily see that all the products are of great quality. They sell hand-made and sustainable items for the home, yoga items, accessories (the kids shoes are adorable!), organic clothes and lighting. I particularly like their teapots and the lamps made of natural bamboo. I’d buy it all, including the bamboo spoons! Carrer de la Boqueria, 14 (Gótico).
La Nostra Ciutat - This shop might be packed with tourists, but it is still a real gem and I always find great presents for my friends, made in Barcelona and for an affordable price! They sell post cards, graphic prints, posters (I particularly like the ones of Frida Kahlo), bags, accessories, games and jewellery in all price ranges. I particularly like the little cactus corner (the flower pots are very cool). A modern space with plenty of light that supports local design. Very recommendable! Carrer del Pi 11 (Gótico).
La Variété - Accessories, items for the home and hand-crafted woodwork from Thailand. The owners are behind the creative process. It is a true pleasure to talk with the owner who has her workshop in the back of the shop. Pure creative energy! The color scheme goes in beige, brown, natural materials, it’s all very delicate. I adore this shop! Carrer del Dr Dou 12 (Raval).
Fantastik Bazar - Home decoration shop with games and objects from different countries. I particularly like the Mexican oilcloths (hule), the Russian dolls and the posters from India. It’s all very kitsch and the prices are affordable! Carrer Joaquín Costa (Raval).
El Ingenio - This is a legendary centenary shop, with its famous papier mâché Picasso on the street. It reopened in the end of 2018 after having being closed for a year. They have, among other things, magic board games, cabezudos and gigantes (enormous figures). It feels like entering into a wonderland. It belongs to the city’s patrimonial commerces. And it’s not only for tourists! Carrer d’en Rauric 6 (Gótico).
Virutas d’Inaf - A beautiful, girly shop with accessories, jewellery, handicraft, it’s perfect for gifts! I always find something here if I’m looking for something for a friend. Carrer de Valencia 275 (Eixample).
Les Topettes - A small shop with perfumes from niche brands. Perfect if you are looking for an original perfume. They also sell candles. Carrer de Joaquin Costa 33 (Raval).
La Clinique Fine Store - This is a small shop for vintage glasses, perfumes, cameras and acessories. It has all been selected with plenty of love! Carrer dels Mirallers 7 (Born).
Holala! Ibiza en el Raval - A temple for vintage clothes in Barcelona, originally from the US and Japan. I love the second hand jackets with an 80s look, if you’d like to copy the looks of Madonna or Freddie Mercury..! They even have furniture. I could stay there for hours! Carrer de Valldonzella 2 (Raval).
Thank you Letizia for this marvellous post! The photos are all taken by her.
