El Tast de Joan Noi - as Fresh as you Can Get!
We discovered El Tast de Joan Noi many years ago, when we were food shopping at the local market, Mercat de la Llibertat, in the Gracia neighborhood. It is a tiny little kitchen, just next to a busy fish and seafood stall. Sometimes bars/food stalls in markets can be a hit, but sometimes really a big miss. So I was suspicious, but we went ahead and sat down in one of the high chairs and ordered a few dishes. We were very pleasantly surprised, and since then we have returned numerous times.
Everything is prepared right there in front of you. We usually have almejas (clams), little fried fish, scallops which is all great, but the tuna is really amazing. They put a delicious walnut vinaigrette on it that just makes it tuna perfection. This is a place to go for early Saturday brunch/lunch, preferably before noon, or on weekdays, when it’s easier to get a seat.
IN A NUTSHELL
Atmosphere: It’s in the middle of a neighborhood market, so it’s busy! But go early and grab the chairs in the corner, there you’re not bothered by anyone.
Recommended: The tuna, without a doubt!
Specifics: The guy behind the counter has worked in the famous Botafumeiro as a chef.
Reservations: Doesn't take reservations.
