Koh-Ndal - Modern Thai Cuisine

I love when exotic food is made friendly and easy to approach. Fairly new Thai restaurant Kohn-Ndal Thai Bistro is exactly that: approachable, modern and fun. The team behind the restaurant is a French-Catalan couple who are in love with Thailand and its gastronomy. What is the story behind the name of the restaurant you ask? Koh means island in Thai, and Ndal comes from Ciutat Condal. Smart! The bistro in the name is homage to the owners’ French roots.

Koh-Ndal Thai Bistro is located up in Sarria-Sant Gervasi, not far from Vallcarca. It has a little terrace outside, and the inside of the restaurant is divided into two very cozy spaces. I fell in love with the back room and its pretty, plant-filled patio. There is a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, but that still maintains a certain stylishness to it without being stiff, just really welcoming.

The menu already looked promising. I always get a feeling of being very cared for as a customer when I see how the menu details exactly what is gluten-free, dairy free and so on. Here there are many options for those with allergies or sensitivities, and that is much appreciated.

For starters we opted for the shrimp brochette with curry and mango sauce, they were to die for! As were the Coconut Dream mussels with lime, basil and cilantro. I HAD to have the Tom Kha Gai soup, which came in a huge bowl. Amazing. It had so much flavor and was so wonderfully rich, warm and spicy.

As our main dishes we chose the duck breast in green curry that came with rice and vegetables. I can be a bit picky with duck breast, but it was perfectly tender. We also had the Pad Thai that was packed with flavor.

Then of course, dessert. We could not say no to the Nutella Bao Bun, who could? The come in twos, packed with Nutella and with coconut crumble sprinkled on top.

I cannot recommend this place to you enough. I love how cozy the restaurant is, the staff is friendly, and the food is fantastic, made with plenty of love and care.
