Santamasa - Mediterranean Dishes to Share
Santamasa in Sant Antoni is a new branch of restaurants that already have established their presence in Sarrià, Sant Cugat and Sabadell. The interior is beautiful with lots of different pretty details and different kinds of tables depending on the group size. The tables by the entrance are great but make sure you also check out the back: there is a whole other space that is even bigger. The big table by the window is particularly pretty. Make sure you have a look downstairs: there is a beautiful, big room for private events that is very inviting.
But enough about the interior decoration, there is much more to say about this restaurant. The focus here are dishes to share, many of them local and traditional classics that have been updated with a special Santamasa twist.
Santamasa is great to go with a group of friends or colleagues, especially when you want a place that has a bit of everything for everyone. It’s also good for a quick lunch, when we were there at lunchtime on a weekday it was busy with customers from nearby offices. Families will find it great with all the space and options for little ones.
We opted for plenty of different dishes to share: as starters we chose the guacamole and quesadillas with chicken, mozzarella and mascarpone that were very tasty. Next time we will also go for the truffle “bikini”, it looked fabulous.
In the menu you will find a whole section on cocas: here they are presented as a kind of ciabattas with different kinds of fillings. We went for the local classic with butifarra, onion, mushrooms and cheese. They also have severals types of tartars, of which the steak tartar is a popular item on the menu. We also opted for a tuna belly salad with tomatoes, red bell pepper, kalamata olives, onion, olive oil and vinegar. It was super fresh and really flavorful.
The mini canelones with truffle were a real winner: Canelones is the perfect comfort food in winter (well, any time of the year actually).
We couldn’t leave without dessert: in fact we had two of them…! A creamy tiramisu and a new item on the menu: ice cream made with recuit, which is a Catalan fresh cheese, topped with honey and cookie crumble.
Santamasa is a friendly neighbourhood restaurant, perfect when you are looking for something casual, where good ingredients are used, that has a little something for everyone on the menu and that is easy on the wallet.
