Finca Nebot: A Fresh Take on Traditional Catalan Cooking
Traditional Catalan cuisine has been enjoying a well-deserved comeback in Barcelona lately, and I'm all for it. There are so many wonderful recipes that deserve to be celebrated, and Finca Nebot does exactly that. Part of the No Hay Mañana Group (Malparit, Babula, Chamako etc), the restaurant looks back to classic Catalan cooking while giving it a fresh, contemporary feel.

Located in Poblenou, it's cozy, lively and the sort of place that is perfect for gathering a few friends or family around the table and order lots of different dishes (maybe even too much..!).
Classic recipes, made for sharing
The menu brings together many of the dishes that have been part of Catalan homes for generations. You'll find classics like cap i pota, fricandó, calamars encebats, mandonguilles amb sípia, fideus a la cassola, trinxat, and seasonal rice dishes alongside a selection of smaller plates to start.

One of my favorite things about eating here is that the food is perfect for sharing. Order a few starters, choose a couple of mains for the table, and don't leave without trying one of the rice dishes.
Ours, with mushrooms and botifarra, was incredible. Rich, comforting and full of flavor, it was the standout of the meal and the one dish I'd definitely come back for.

A little theatre at the table
I also really enjoyed the open kitchen. I always like being able to watch the team at work, and here it adds a lovely energy to the dining room. You get a glimpse of what's happening behind the scenes without it ever feeling distracting.

Some dishes are finished right in front of you, which makes dinner feel even more special, without it being overwhelming or gimmicky.

The restaurant's famous steak tartare is prepared tableside and adjusted to your own taste (spicy or not spicy?), while the fish baked in salt arrives with a little surprise: the salt crust is briefly set alight before being cracked open to reveal the fish inside. It's a fun moment that everyone around the table ends up watching.

Save room for dessert
Traditional desserts also have their place on the menu, alongside homemade ice cream, but don't overlook the classics (natilles amb galeta Maria was our favorite). A good flan or pudding is sometimes exactly how a Catalan meal should end.

Why I'd Go Back
What I like most about Finca Nebot is that it doesn't try to reinvent Catalan cuisine or make it something it's not.
Instead, it reminds you why these dishes have remained favorites for generations. They're comforting, generous and meant to be shared.
If you have visitors in town who want to try traditional Catalan food beyond the obvious tourist spots, this is the kind of restaurant I'd bring them to: it’s fun and the real deal. Equally, if you're local and simply craving a proper Catalan meal, Finca Nebot deserves a place on your list.
