Hotel Casa Albets - Vegan Country Escape
Deep in northern Catalonia, close to Andorra, lies a beautiful boutique hotel called Casa Albets. This family-owned, renovated farmhouse was empty for 50 years and is now restored with all its charm intact by owners Megan and Joel. It is the first organic and vegan hotel in all of Spain!

The hotel sits atop a hill with beautiful views of the nearby Pyrenees and the forest and is a 15-minute drive from nearby Solsona. This hotel is both organic and vegan: they have a vegan restaurant open a few days a week, with a 7-course menu that changes for every meal and includes many vegetables from their garden. The restaurant is included in the Michelin Bib Gourmand!

On our visit we dined in the restaurant twice and loved the experience. In addition to the skillfully prepared dishes (showcasing that vegan food is most certainly not boring!), the wine list complements the food perfectly, by offering many local wines. The dishes are elaborate, beautiful, and delicious, and the restaurant is much worth visiting even if you don’t stay at the hotel.

The garden has a small pool, which is lovely for warm summer days, and when the weather allows, you can dine outside and enjoy the stunning views. The sunsets here are spectacular! The surrounding forest is lovely for a shorter or longer hike. The hotel is far away from any neighbors, roads or villages, and it transmits a wonderful sense of peace and calm.

When you book, have a look at the Habitació de l’Ermita: a junior suite (it used to be the chicken coop!) with a jacuzzi and a private terrace, perfect on a sunny day, even in the middle of winter. And you can see the sunset from your window!

Casa Albets is pet friendly if you want to bring your furry friend along! They have dog beds and food/water bowls available. It is also great for families with kids. The hotel is located approximately a 1h45min drive from Barcelona and is also ideal for weddings and events. I highly recommend combining your visit to Casa Albets with the nearby winery El Celler del Miracle for a tasting or a pairing (they have many different options) and a stop in Solsona, famous for its knives.
