Pirineu en Boca - Organic Grass Fed Meat from the Pyrenees

Pirineu en Boca is so much more than what meets the eye. I had heard it was a popular restaurant for meat and steak in Barcelona, but when I stepped in for the first time recently and had a chat with the lovely owner I was blown away.

All of the meat in the restaurant is organic. But that’s not all: the owners work closely with farmers in the Pyrenees to make sure the cattle is grass-fed and lives outside in the mountains. They visit the farms frequently for quality control, and return bringing plenty of inspiration.

The decoration of the restaurant is filled with details inspired by the Pyrenees, with beautiful paintings on the walls, and interesting pieces created by local artists. There is a lush green patio outside that is very recommendable when weather permits. The shelves are stocked with gourmet items for you to buy to take home with you, and delicious dishes for take away. They also have a shop online, with a large number of different options of organic, grass-fed meat to be delivered to your home.

There is also a butcher on site if you would like to buy your organic meat here and prepare it at home. The butcher is the 4th generation of butchers, and he has more than 40 (!) years of experience! He is a true master. You can choose pieces to take home with you, or you can look for a nice piece of meat and ask them to prepare it for you, and eat it in the restaurant. I love this idea.

We came back for dinner, and really enjoyed the evening. We began with a few starters, of which I particularly want to highlight the hummus and the babaganoush, to be honest it was one of the best I’ve ever had, so creamy and flavorful. We paired the starters with a brown ale from the Pyrenees, and after this a mind-blowing natural, sulfite-free rosé.

The main course was a big dish of various types of meat that came on a large hot plate for us to share. WOW. Every single piece of meat was so tender: we had lamb, chicken, beef and pork, in different shapes and forms. I still dream about this dish, it was that good.

Pirineu en Boca is a great experience where you are well taken care of, and where plenty of attention is paid to every single detail. There is so much love behind the concept, and it transmits all the way to the dish. It is a must visit.
