Akiro has landed in Barcelona, bringing a fresh and exciting twist to Japanese-Peruvian flavors. After a successful debut in Madrid, it’s now charming hungry Barcelonians with its innovative sushi, nigiri, and delicious hand rolls.

What makes Akiro special

  • Nikkei meets hands-on experience
Akiro calls itself a Nikkei hand roll bar, and it delivers. You’ll see the chefs prepare rolls right in front of you, blending Japanese technique with tasty and exciting Peruvian flavors. The menu also includes standout nigiri and sashimi that can hold their own in any sushi bar.

  • No reservations, bar seating only
You can’t book ahead: it’s first come, first served. Inside, it’s minimal, elegant, wood tones and clean lines, letting the food be the focus.

  • Flavors worth discovering
Some of the dishes people keep raving about include the ebi furai hand roll (tempura shrimp with spicy mayo: I loved it), the acevichado (seabass with ají amarillo flavors), and the buttery tuna toro sashimi. The chefs aren’t afraid to mix things up: you’ll find touches of molasses, ginger jam, or rocoto chocolate on the flambéed eel nigiri. I highly recommend ordering it: it’s fantastic, and it’s usually served last, as it’s slightly sweet.

  • Friendly service, smooth vibes
Even in a busy bar concept, the staff move with precision. Ordering is streamlined via a form, and dishes begin arriving in sequence. Though interaction is lighter (because of the format), the mood is never cold: there’s a warmth in the space, in the plating, in the vibe.
