Amma Gelato has taken Barcelona, and me, by storm. This cool new vegan ice cream shop mixes exciting and tasty in such a way that you’ll be going back for more, again and again. I’m living proof of that..!

Arturo, the owner, has French/Swiss origins, and a past in something completely different: finance. He was working in oil trading, but after many years he turned his life around to focus on something completely different: ice cream.

He traveled to Italy to study with a renowned ice cream master specializing in natural flavors in ice creams. After this, Arturo moved to Barcelona and started looking for a space for his own business, with a functional kitchen where he could work on his creations.

Ice cream isn’t only about tasty recipes and technique, however. For Arturo, the ingredients are immensely important. For his gianduja flavor (chocolate and hazelnut), he visited a specific region in Italy, famous for their hazelnuts. He didn’t just go for any kind of hazelnut there, either: he tried 15 different varieties there to find the one he liked the most. Because that is the level of dedication at Amma Gelato.

The cocoa comes from Venezuela, the pistachios from a specific region in Italy (Bronte) known for the best ones, the watermelon from Tarragona, and the list goes on. He wants the best ingredients, and if they can be local, even better.

If you are a purist and have doubts that vegan ice cream can’t be as good as a dairy one, think again. These creations are soft and creamy, and so packed with flavor. I already have a few favorites, such as the salted caramel with peanut, the avocado, coconut, and lime (so creamy and refreshing!) and the coco caramel.

Amma Gelato doesn’t only have tasty ice creams, the place is cool, too. If you’re a fan of the interior decoration at Parking Pizza, for example, then you’ll feel right at home here. Such a charming place, and next-level ice creams.
