Bar Bocata - For Any Time of the Day
The hype around Bar Bocata is very real, and easy to understand from the moment you walk in.
It’s lively, full of energy, and the open kitchen adds to the atmosphere, with something always happening. It’s one of those places that is great at any time of the day, which is not always easy to get right. Bar Bocata opens early for breakfast, fills up quickly at lunchtime, and in the evening becomes a go-to for a glass of wine, a caña, and something good to eat.
This post has been updated to include their second location, Bar Bocata 2 Diagonal.

What to order
Their tortilla is already something of a signature, and for good reason. Wonderfully soft in the middle, with caramelised onion, it’s hard not to order it every time.
The sandwiches are also a strong point (as the name suggests), and the menu includes a few more classic, comforting dishes. If you see the macarrones, don’t think twice. Rich, delicious, and true comfort food. They also do a lunch menu for a good price and if you want something quick, but I usually pick out items from their menu to share. For dessert I love the thick chocolate mousse with olive oil, salt, and hazelnuts.
The atmosphere
There’s a slightly vintage feel to the space, with cool little details. It’s casual, busy, a little loud, and very easy to feel comfortable in. Both of their locations have bar seating, which is great if you are dining alone.

Bar Bocata 2 Diagonal
They’ve recently opened a second location, Bar Bocata 2 Diagonal, with a very similar concept and menu. If the original is full (which it often is), this is a very good alternative, but I still suggest to book in advance just in case.
Av. Diagonal 343 (Eixample Dreta).
Final thoughts
Bar Bocata is a great place to come back to, often. For a quick breakfast, a comforting lunch, or a casual dinner with friends.
Just make sure to book ahead if you’re planning to come at peak times.
