Berbena - Simple Sophistication
Berbena is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Barcelona. There, I said it.
This restaurant has everything: the vibe, the food, the team. You feel like you’re in a cool series: think The Bear but without the angst.

The place is small with only a few tables and a chef’s bar, but the open kitchen gives it a spacious feel. It actually feels like you are IN the kitchen yourself, which makes it quite a unique experience.

Seasonal ingredients is king here. The menu changes according to what is available and in season. The descriptions might look simple, but when you can take simple ingredients and create them into something extraordinary and sophisticated, then you know you are on the right path. And that is exactly what is happening in Berbena.

The menu consists of dishes to share, cheeses, mains, and desserts. They bake their own Nordic-style sourdough bread here to accompany the meal (make sure to order it together with the sides: the smoked butter is fantastic), and you can also buy it to take home with you. There is always fascinating options to pick from in the menu, and if you’re in doubt just ask the team to help you.
The wine options here are very extensive, ranging from local wines to gems from elsewhere. They have no less than 300 bottles stowed away in their bodega, so you’re guaranteed to find exactly what you’re looking for. You can also order by the glass if you prefer.

There is an air of simple, straightforward sophistication in Berbena that checks all the boxes for everything I am looking for in a restaurant, no doubt. Make sure to book weeks in advance, they don’t open on weekends and the seating here is coveted.
