Casa Sagnier - a Hotel with a Beautiful History
Boutique hotel Casa Sagnier has quite a story to tell. It used to belong to one of the most famous architects in Barcelona; Enric Sagnier i Villavecchia, the mastermind behind many stunning buildings such as the Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor on top of Tibidabo, the customs building, Palau de Justícia and many more. Now Sagnier’s home is a stunning hotel, dedicated to his life and work in tasteful details. You can breathe in the atmosphere when you walk through its doors: it’s a truly unique place.

Located on the leafy Rambla Catalunya, dotted with bars, restaurants, and shops, boutique hotel Casa Sagnier stands out as a striking gem. On the ground floor you’ll find the lovely Café de l’Arquitecte (read my review here): a lovely restaurant serving locals and hotel guests, and the cozy breakfast area. There is also a cafe, filled with people working away, catching up with friends, and having a quick bite to eat.

This luxury hotel with 51 rooms was designed by Sagnier in 1892 to be both his home and architect’s studio (see the rooms here). It’s amazing to think that this is where he created some of the most impressive buildings in Barcelona. I highly recommend you book a room with a terrace overlooking Rambla Catalunya: you can see both the sea and the Tibidabo from there.

The Superior Delux room has a sunbed and a shower for those warm days to enjoy in the sun. You might not even want to leave your room! There is also a nice, leafy-green rooftop terrace for guests to enjoy, also equipped with a shower and with drinks service.

The breakfast is top notch at Casa Sagnier. You have a great buffet with local ingredients, and you can also order from a menu: pancakes, Eggs Benedict, and more. I highly recommend the Salmon Eggs Benedict; not only is the dish gorgeous to look at but it’s also filling and delicious. If you live in Barcelona I highly recommend dropping by with a friend or your partner for a great brunch.

Lunch and dinner at Cafè de l’Arquitecte is a lovely affair, with fresh, seasonal ingredients and chef Jorge Aranda’s signature flair. The menu is filled with local specialities, tapas, fresh fish and seafood, meat options, and there are always paella/rice dishes available, including a vegan option.

Casa Sagnier is a stunning hotel, perfectly located in the city center and very close to public transport. It has plenty of charm, and I highly recommend it to both visitors and locals looking for a staycation. We enjoyed a lovely stay in Casa Sagnier: the room was perfect and the meals, including the breakfast, were wonderful. For more information and to book, click here.
