Filigrana Restaurant - Outstanding in Every Way

Filigrana Restaurant impressed me from the first time I stepped inside. Located inside the Catalonia Plaza Hotel at Plaça Espanya, this restaurant checks every single box in my book.

Filigrana is the kind of place where you go for an experience. The chef, Paco Hernandez, is a soft-spoken, very talented chef who is much appreciated by his team, and he makes creations in his kitchen that you will not forget.

The ingredients are in focus here. They have picked out the best, most dedicated producers with the most outstanding products, and this is transmitted throughout the menu. Seasonal ingredients receive a lot of attention, and this makes choosing between the dishes not an easy task.

The lunch menu is a very attractive deal. For a very fair price, you receive an appetizer, a first course, a main course, and a dessert of your choice, with options for vegetarians and vegans. What about artichokes in different textures with ikura eggs sabayon to start with? An a salmon with citrus, cauliflower, and Ulva Lactuca algae? And for dessert, a beautiful pineapple ravioli with vanilla bourbon cream? They create magic here.

The evening menu (also available during lunchtime should you want to forego the fixed menu) presents a range of dishes to share, including beautiful and elaborate vegetarian and vegan options. The Pirinat beef carpaccio with parmesan cheese shavings really stands out, as does the open grilled crayfish, and the grilled burrata with mole, avocado, truffle, and honey emulsion.

The stars among the main courses are no doubt the firewood rice dishes and the grilled meats. I warmly recommend you try one of the rice dishes, such as the seafood or sea cucumber rice, or the Iberian pork rice. They also have a vegan version available.

The grilled meat is top-notch. The local meats, such as the tenderloin comes from Galicia, known for their high-quality meats. There is also both Black Angus and Wagyu available; all served with truffle mashed potatoes and Himalaya salt stones. If fish is your thing, ask for the market fish, it won’t disappoint.

Please, save room for dessert. The Filigrana cheesecake is a sight for sore eyes (see photos above), a truly unique spectacle that is not only a fun experience but also very, very delicious. Should you want to continue the evening, go upstairs to the rooftop bar, The Clock, for a cocktail or two and for fantastic views of Montjuic and Plaça Espanya.

Filigrana stands out not only because of its excellent food, but also the wonderful service. The staff is always attentive, experienced, and helpful, which adds even more bonus points to what this restaurant has to offer. Go here with your partner, for a business lunch or dinner, celebrate a family event (they have a private area available), or go by yourself, when you want to give yourself a treat. At Filigrana, you will be very well taken care of.
