Gringa - Cool Diner Nostalgia

Everyone needs a diner in their life, don’t you think? Gringa is the epitome of what a cool diner needs to be: the decor, the vibe, the music, the staff, the menu, and the clientele. Oh, and then there’s the added bonus of the terrace, of course.

Gringa first started off as a food truck and was wildly successful at it. After attending numerous events and festivals, they decided to open a brick-and-mortar. Located in the Raval, Gringa brings Californian diner vibes to hungry guests looking for a good time.

The most famous item on the menu is probably the fried chicken bun, a sandwich made to perfection and not to be taken lightly. The fried chicken comes in a soft brioche bun with cheddar, lime red cabbage coleslaw, pickles, and a honey and chipotle sauce. It doesn’t sound bad at all, right?

But there’s plenty more. Some things from the menu you’ll have a hard time finding anywhere else in Barcelona, such as a spinach and artichoke dip or the jalapeño poppers. Among the appetizers, you can also find spicy buffalo wings and a generous serving of Gringa nachos.

There are no less than eight different burgers and buns as mains. The French Kiss burger is one of the most famous besides the fried chicken. It comes with caramelized onions, Emmental cheese, dijon mustard honey mayonnaise and pickles, and a French Dip on the side (and, of course, their homemade fries). The Compton burger is also serious business with bacon, double cheddar, and jalapeños, and their McSmash; a smash burger that also serves as a piece of nostalgia: “a nostalgic flavor done our way” as they say. There is also both a veggie and a vegan burger for those who prefer plant-based.

Should burgers not be your thing, fear not: their famous Baja Fish Tacos still remain on the menu from their food truck days. They come served in three, with cod fried Baja style and pico de Gallo and a chipotle, lime, and cilantro sauce.

Gringa also has regular events on the menu, with guest DJs and one-day-only dishes, so make sure to check their socials for this. What’s so great about Gringa is also the fact that you can book a table here, which is perfect because it can get pretty busy. And if you fall in love with the staff’s t-shirts, you can get one too: they sell cool Gringa merch!

If you like Gringa, you will most certainly also fall in love with Gringa All Day: a fun daytime breakfast/brunch/lunch situation where you’ll find delicious pancakes, chicken and waffles (their fried chicken is famous, remember!) and lots more. They do walk-ins only. Read my review here.
