Honest Greens - Healthy and Sustainable
The idea for Honest Greens came from three friends: an American, a Dane and a Frenchman, all with a dream of creating a place that offers innovative, affordable AND healthy dishes. They want their food to be real, without preservatives, additives and refined sugars, and buying from local producers and artisans that use sustainable methods. Well congratulations guys, you’ve nailed it.

Honest Greens first opened in Barcelona in a very central location, on Rambla Catalunya just next to Plaza Catalunya. The space is big (check out downstairs too!) and beautifully decorated. Right by the entrance you have a coffee corner that prepares specialty coffee and offers healthy indulgences (without any refined sugars) that go far beyond any boring energy balls that we are used to seeing.

Recently they have opened two more locations; on C/ Tuset and in the Born (Pla del Palau). The spaces are equally as beautiful and inviting, and especially the Tuset location is packed with plants.

What also impresses me at Honest Greens is how they make the most of local, seasonal ingredients. The dishes and the sides are exciting and fun, such as the sweet potato with plant-based creme fraiche, herbs and toasted sesame, hummus with sumak crudités, a whole (!) cauliflower head prepared in the Josper with tahini and parsley, braised carrots with fresh dill, toasted almonds and a plant-based special sauce, home-made falafels, grass-fed beef and so much more.

The drinks list is also interesting, there is a flavoured water bar with a free refill, where the water is prepared with reverse osmosis. They infuse the waters with fruits, herbs and honey, and change with the seasons. There are cold-pressed juices, craft beer (all of the beers on tap are made in Barcelona), kombucha on tap and wines.

The desserts are just as fun. I’m addicted to the cauliflower mocha brownie, and the cookie is seriously addictive. But there is plenty more on the dessert menu that is worth a try.

Honest Greens also offers breakfasts in the morning: toasts such as Eggs Florentine with salmon, pancakes (gluten free ricotta pancake), a breakfast burrito, and bowls such as protein-power overnight oats, plant-based yoghurt and more. Sounds interesting, right? They now have their own app which I very much recommend using: it’s cheaper than through other delivery apps, you get points for ordering, and they have great customer service.
This concept really has nailed it in so many ways. Healthy food can be fun and interesting, and kind on the wallet, too!
