La Desayuneria - Lively Diner Vibes
It has taken me far too long to visit La Desayuneria. I had heard great things about it, and when I finally visited, I understood what all the fuss was about. What a great place!
La Desayuneria is tight and lively, with two busy floors. It has a wonderful diner vibe to it: it’s friendly, welcoming and the menu is precisely what you’d expect and so much better. I was laughing hysterically when I got the menu: how could I choose from 8 pages of delicious food?!
Let’s go through the menu: I love how down to earth it is with laminated pages. The first page is filled with drinks such as fresh juices and smoothies, and different bowls ranging from healthy ones with greek yogurt, fruit, and granola to cereal bowls with fruity types of milk. There are milkshakes (the carrot cake milkshake sounds fun!) and milkshakes made with organic oat milk. I opted for one with cherries and maple syrup.
Second page: Toasts and sandwiches. I’m at a loss for words here. Toasts, sandwiches (many different ones), filled savory croissants and waffles, and so much more, where you can add home-made cheese fries or fruit salad. Page three: omelets in all shapes and forms. Barbecue chicken and cream cheese sounds pretty tasty, don’t you think? All omelets come with salad, fruit, and croutons, and you can add cheese fries too.
The fourth page is dedicated to their so-called Marie Antoinettes which are French toasts with home-made maple syrup, fruit and topped with savory or sweet toppings of your choice, such as Nutella, banana, and Oreo, just to name one. On the same page, we also find grilled cheese sandwiches that are filled with cheddar cheese and the ingredients of your choice such as peach marmalade, sweet bacon, fried chicken, avocado and much more.
Next page is dedicated to the House Specials, which consist of huge dishes of mixed goodness such as for example the Hitchcock breakfast with pancakes, two fried eggs, bacon, patties, caramelized onion, and fries, or bagels with eggs, chicken & waffles and much more.
The following page is packed with pancakes, both sweet and savory. It was a difficult, almost impossible choice, but we chose the cinnamon roll pancakes with cinnamon, whipped cream (homemade) and caramelized apple. We also opted for savory pancakes with caramelized pineapple and crispy bacon, with extra cheddar cheese. When it comes to pancake batter, you can choose classic, chocolate chip, granola, or banana pancakes, in addition to the toppings. AND you can have your pancakes gluten-free! We opted for the GF ones and loved them. You get a large jar of maple syrup on your table to top your pancakes with, as much as you want (very dangerous..!). They claim to have the most extensive variety of pancakes in Barcelona, and I have no doubt about this whatsoever.
The last pages are filled with lunch options such as salads, burgers, so-called “platos combinados” and drinks. I had an organic chai latte with veggie milk, and it was HUGE. They also have a lunch deal and a kids menu, they are dog-friendly, AND you can celebrate birthdays there too (you get a free breakfast if it’s your birthday!). Right by the entrance, they have all of their amazing looking cakes, make sure to save a little space for that too.
This place is everything. Good vibes, huge portions, tasty options, and something for everyone. Go!
