Rangoli - Indian Street Food

A few steps away from the beach in Barceloneta, you can find Rangoli, an unexpected gem for those who enjoy authentic, and different, Indian food. This chef-driven venue (behind the dishes is chef Anand Singh Negi) offers the best of Indian street food, with dishes inspired by roadside cafes, street hawkers, food stalls at bus and train stations, and chaat stands.

The restaurant is decorated with hand-picked artifacts from India and is quite spacious (it is great for groups!). There is a large terrace outside if you want to feel the soft Mediterranean breeze while you enjoy your meal.

Some of the highlights from the menu are, without a doubt, the Pav Bhaji; a popular street food dish consisting of soft bread buns served with mashed veggies cooked with blended spices and topped with a dollop of butter. The Hara Moong Daal and Salli Chaat are sprouted moong dal with yogurt, potato straws, cilantro, red onions, and pomegranate.

From the options of the curries from the roadside cafes, you’ll find Gosht Tariwala; a home-style lamb curry with potatoes in a tomato and onion sauce. Another exotic dish is the Bhindi Do Pyaaza; okra tossed with onions, tomato, garam masala, and dried mango powder. I love how you can find dishes you can’t find in most Indian restaurants in Barcelona!

The drinks menu is also very different and fun, with cocktails (including great mocktails) with an Indian flair. What about a tamarind martini? A mango and chili mojito? Or maybe a kokum lemonade?

Rangoli is halal-friendly, and they have excellent vegetarian and vegan options. Their sister restaurant is famed Bembi, an Indian restaurant that has been around for a long, long time. If you are around at the time of Diwali, make sure to sign up for their special event: it is a wonderful experience!
