Santo Porcello - A Trip to Italy in Sant Antoni

Santo Porcello is the kind of place where you go inside and you are immediately transported to a different place, and why not even a different time altogether. This deli and bar in Sant Antoni is a real charmer. This place could perfectly well be a deli in a cosy neighborhood in Rome or why not a little town somewhere in Italy; the checkerboard floors, the turquoise paint, and the friendly face behind the counter.

The walls are filled with Italian delicacies you can buy there and take home with you if you want to prepare a good, authentic Italian meal. But I dare you to leave without trying something from their menu. First we had a Tigella: a thin sandwich (traditionally from Modena) filled with salami and taleggio. I loved how the bread allowed the flavours of the salami to come across perfectly, and the size makes it a perfect appetiser.

After this delight: panini time. We had one with porchetta and eggplant, and WOW. The bread is so fresh and flavorful. We had mind-blowing bruschetta, amazing cheese and salami from the deli counter, and wonderful green olives (gosh how I love Italian olives..!).

Do you really think we could leave without having dessert? Nope. We were brought a wonderful home-made tiramisu, and I can tell you: it was one of the best I’ve had in Barcelona.

Before you leave make sure you bring a few things home with you. The deli counter left me speechless: all the amazing charcuterie and cheeses brought directly from Italy. Go here, bring your friends and thank me later.
