Asado - Burgers like Nobody's Business
Asado has arrived in Barcelona with a different take on burgers: they are doing their own thing, and they are doing it great. They cook their burgers over fire, and always use great, local ingredients. And the fact that they have one of the coolest deco I’ve seen in a while adds to the experience.

Lucien Gordon, the owner, and chef, first opened Asado in Bristol, where it quickly became a success. However, Lucien and his wife were looking into moving to Barcelona, and aren’t we lucky that they did! The meat is of excellent quality, dry-aged, and made with a secret mix that makes it packed with flavor and juicy. They use a wood-fire grill to make their creations, both burgers and other items on their menu.

On your visit, make sure to check out the limited edition items. Currently, there are two: the “Pollo Fuego,” which, as the name implies, is spicy (read REAL spicy, for those of you who are looking for heat!), and spicy chicken wings that come with a blue cheese and habanero sauce.

The burger menu is to the point, which we love. This is not a “please everyone” kind of menu: it’s one where you can see that each one is made with love, care, and perfection. Choose between two sizes and whichever flavor tickles your fancy. The classic Asado burger is for those who like a good, no-frills burger. Oak-grilled dry-aged meat patty, quality cheddar cheese, chimichurri (a lovely surprise!), confit garlic mayo (I’m a big fan), natural ketchup, pickled red onion, and lettuce.

If you are a serious burger lover, you might give the El Don a shot; this one is not a joke. The burger comes out pouring with smoky dry-aged shredded beef, cheddar, bacon and onion stew, and more goodness.

I loved the organic chicken burger with chunky guacamole and chipotle mayo, and vegetarians and vegans have good options too. The sides are also serious business, such as the morcilla nuggets and the insanely good smoked beef croquetas, which I am still dreaming of. We paired our burgers with tasty IPA cheesy fries and topped off the meal with a passionfruit cheesecake and a rich and creamy dark chocolate mousse.

Asado has a good lunch deal during the week that includes drinks and dessert, and for coffee lovers, there is a great surprise: specialty coffee from Hidden Coffee Roasters. They also have craft beer on tap, and I can’t wait to go back for dinner and have a cocktail or two with my burger.

Asado checks all the boxes in my book: great dishes, excellent staff, lovely owner, great drinks, and cool space. I can honestly say it’s one of the best burgers I’ve had in Barcelona, and I’ve had my fair share. Asado is definitely here to stay.
