Where to Eat Calçots in Barcelona
Winter and early spring is calçot season: one of the most beloved food traditions in Catalonia. If you’re not familiar, calçots are long, sweet onions grilled over an open flame until charred on the outside, then wrapped up to steam and served with romesco sauce. You peel off the blackened outer layer, dip the tender inside into the sauce, and lower it into your mouth like a pro.
It’s messy, it’s fun, and it’s a must if you’re in Barcelona this time of year. Here are a few great spots where you can enjoy them without having to leave the city.

Can Travi Nou
Can Travi Nou is a beautiful, restored farmhouse-style restaurant on top of a hill with nice views over the city. This classic draws hungry patrons with their local classic dishes, and also their calçots when in season. It’s really great for groups. Read my review here.

Cozy and charming El Disbarat in Barcelona serves homely Catalan food, which of course also includes calçots in winter and spring. Their menu costs 36,50€ and includes, in addition to the calçots, also grilled meat, a fish option, and three dessert options. Drinks are included.

Casa Pepi
Cute and kitschy Casa Pepi offers a Menu Calçotada on weekends until the end of February. The price is unbeatable (28€) for a meal with calçots, a main dish with meat (lamb, butifarra, and morcilla negra), escalivada, pan con tomate of course, and crema catalana for dessert. You’ll get a bib so you don’t get dirty, and wine and gaseosa to drink.

El Glop
El Glop has three restaurants, but my favorite is the one located in Gràcia. They are famous for their generous, homely meals, and of course they have calçots on the menu when in season. It’s a nice, authentic experience, in the middle of the city.
