Kina Barra - Beautiful Bar in Sarrià

I had heard two things about Kina Barra before visiting: that the space was beautiful and that the flan was worth saving room for.

The first one turned out to be true. As for the second... Well, I simply didn't have room left. Judging by how many people have recommended it to me since, I will use it as an excuse to come back.

Located on Travessera de Gràcia, Kina Barra is one of Barcelona's newest restaurants, with an interior designed by Cirera Studio, the team behind many of the city's beautiful restaurant and bar spaces. The dining room is dark, cozy and the kind of place you’ll stay for a while with a bottle of wine, a partner, or a friend.

If you have the chance, grab one of the seats at the bar. It's my favourite spot in the restaurant, giving you a front-row view of the kitchen while sitting right beside the seafood display, where oysters, razor clams and the day's fresh fish are beautifully presented. It all adds to the excitement before the food lands on your table.

What we ordered

We started with the Croquetón de cocido de la abuela Kina, served with a pipette of mushroom and foie sauce. They were packed with meat, crisp on the outside, and exactly how I like my croquetas.

Next came the oysters. We tried both the natural version and the ponzu option. They were wonderfully fresh, large, and a great way to start the meal.

One of my favorite dishes of the evening was the Angus steak tartar, served on roasted bone marrow. I especially liked that you can add the spice yourself at the table, depending on how much heat you like.

We also shared the Pularda canelón with morel and foie sauce, a rich, comforting dish that felt perfectly at home on the menu and the place.

Who I'd recommend it to

Kina Barra is the sort of place that fits a lot of occasions. I'd come here after work for a glass of wine at the bar and something to snack on, for dinner with friends, or for a date night when you want somewhere nice but without feeling formal.

And next time? I'll be ordering the flan first. Just to make sure I actually have room for it.
