Molino de Pez - One of Barcelona's Most Enjoyable Dining Rooms
One of my favourite seats in a restaurant is wherever I can see the kitchen.
At Molino de Pez, you don't really have to choose. The open kitchen is visible from much of the dining room, so throughout the meal you can watch the chefs cooking over the open fire. I always enjoy restaurants where you can see what's happening behind the scenes, and I think it brings a lovely energy to the dining room.

Another thing I really enjoyed was that several dishes are finished right at the table. Our lenguadina arrived whole before being expertly deboned in front of us (wish I could learn to do that!), and the beef and artichoke skewer also had its final touches added tableside. They're small details, but they make the meal feel that little bit more special.

Molino de Pez is the Barcelona restaurant from the family behind Madrid's iconic La Ancha, bringing the same care for seasonal ingredients and traditional cooking to the Eixample, but in a brighter, more contemporary setting.

What we ordered
We started with Normandy oysters and scallops, both wonderfully fresh and a great way to begin the meal. The cazón en adobo was delicious and came with a tasty tartar to dip it in.

The beef and artichoke skewer was one of my favourite dishes of the evening, followed by a beautifully cooked solomillo. We also shared the whole lenguadina, which was presented first as a whole fish before being carefully deboned at the table.

Dessert was every bit as good. We ordered the restaurant's famous Fismuler cheesecake, which absolutely deserves its reputation, together with a light white chocolate foam with strawberries.

Who I'd recommend it to
This is one of those restaurants I'd feel confident recommending to almost anyone. It's polished and elegant without feeling stiff or formal, making it just as suitable for a business dinner as it is for a date night, a celebration with friends, or taking visitors who want to experience something nice and local.
The service deserves a mention too. It was attentive throughout the meal, but always relaxed.
It's exactly the sort of place I'd choose when I want a dinner that feels just a little bit special.
