Metl - Cool, Authentic Mexican

For many years, much-loved Metl was doing pop-ups, and fans rejoiced when they announced the opening of their brick-and-mortar restaurant in Poblenou. Oriana Abzueta (Venezuela) and Juan Pescador (Mexico) run this cool corner spot that stays busy both day and evening with hungry patrons looking for good Mexican food that’s far away from any Tex-Mex you might find elsewhere.

Abzueta and Pescador have plenty of experience in kitchens around the world; in London, New York, and Canada. And even though the menu at Metl is easy and approachable, you can see there’s technique and skill behind the dishes. They use local produce but focus on traditional Mexican gastronomy, and they do it beautifully. Everything is made from scratch, and you can taste it.

There’s aguachile, ceviche michelada style, a beautiful cóctel de camarón (shrimp cocktail), tamales, chilaquiles perfect for sharing, a variety of tacos (including vegan options)… The Ensenada-style fish tacos are a must-order: they’re quite impressive when landing on the table, both in size and appearance. Overall, the portions are very generous, and you’ll fill up fast. And, important to mention: the vegan options are solid and not an afterthought.

In the evening, Metl is perfect for a night out, with a range of drinks and cocktails in addition to the non-alcoholic options. During the day the terrace is inviting for if you’re craving a little time in the sun.

Metl doesn’t take reservations, so plan your visit accordingly!
