Poblenou Neighborhood Guide - Where to Eat, Drink, and Shop

Oh, Poblenou! Such a cool neighborhood, away from the crazy crowds, and let’s admit it, the masses of tourists. It’s next to the beach, but that’s not usually what we go to Poblenou for. Nah, it’s the breakfasts, the bars, the fun restaurants, and independent shops. I’ve put together a guide for your next Poblenou visit, and you’ll most likely realize that you’ll have to come here again, and again, and again to go through it all..!

EATING AND DRINKING IN POBLENOU

Masa Vins Barcelona

Masa Vins, Barcelona. Photo © Barcelona Food Experience.

Masa Vins

Masa Vins is that perfect wine bar we’ve been looking for. From the moment their doors open, it starts to fill with thirsty guests, and soon it’s buzzing with people and the atmosphere is through the roof, in the best of ways.

The range of wines at Masa Vins is extensive, and oh-so-exciting. There are pages and pages of bottles to pick from in the menu, and the perfect number of options by the glass for when you want to be adventurous and try a bit of everything. Read my review here.

Masa Vins, C. de Pallars, 154.

Henry’s Bar, Barcelona. Photo © Barcelona Food Experience.

Henry’s Bar

Henry’s Bar is a laid-back spot with a dash of dive bar and plenty of personality. The vibes are friendly, the craft cocktails are fun and innovative, and there’s true comfort food on the menu. They open early and welcome everyone, including dogs of course: Henrietta is the queen of the place.

Enoteca Paco Perez, Barcelona. Photo © Barcelona Food Experience.

Enoteca Paco Perez

Enoteca Paco Perez is a 2-Michelin-starred restaurant in the beautiful Arts Hotel here in Barcelona. The restaurant is headed by Chef Paco Perez, known for his innovative and creative use of seafood in his dishes. The menu changes frequently but typically features a variety of seafood dishes and traditional Spanish flavors. The restaurant also has a wine list that features a wide selection of Spanish wines. Enoteca Paco Perez has received numerous accolades for its food and service. Read my review here.

On Sundays they offer a rice menu, which is somewhat different from their tasting menu. It is called El Arroz de Paco and consists of six dishes and petit fours. You can add a wine pairing to your dishes, and I very much recommend it; the wines we enjoyed were incredible.

Enoteca Paco Perez, Carrer de la Marina, 19, 21.

Table by Ona, Barcelona. Photo © Barcelona Food Experience.

Table by Ona

Table by Ona is an intimate, unforgettable farm-to-table dining experience. There’s nothing quite like it, and you need to hurry: chef Jack Tonkin is headed for great things and we need to make the most of this opportunity. You can expect a multitude of dishes (16-17 on my visits), and only six guests. It’s all highly seasonal, thoughtful, and simply magical. The location is undisclosed, until you make your booking. Read my review of Table by Ona here.

Metl Barcelona

Metl

Chef-led and full of flavor, Metl serves up generous Mexican dishes and cocktails in a cool space in Poblenou. It started off as a food truck, but after its massive success they opened a brick-and-mortar and we are delighted they did. The food here most certainly isn’t your typical Tex-Mex, which makes it feel different and fun. Fair warning: the tacos are huge!

Morgentau Barcelona

Morgentau

Poblenou has a wonderful new vegan brunch, and it is called Morgentau. In case you don’t know German, it means morning dew, isn’t that lovely?

The space is so pretty and homely, and there is even a little corner for the kids to play. There are lots of plants, calm, natural colors, and large windows. Across the street there’s a park, which makes it all even more stunning. Oh, and a terrace if you prefer to sit outside.

The team here is very friendly, and the menu varied and interesting. Here they don’t try to take the easy way out: the dishes are elaborate (but casual!) and of course very tasty. The drinks menu is also on point (just an example: spritz in different flavors, and not the Aperol kind!), and that usually says a lot about a place.

I highly recommend the blueberry pancakes: there are blueberries also inside the pancake batter which made them super juicy and flavorful. I loved that the pancakes aren’t too sweet, just perfect, and served with yoghurt and poppy seeds. Read my review here.

Morgentau, C/ de la Llacuna, 114.

Els Tres Porquets

It looks like any other old school bar in the neighborhood, but just wait until you see the menu. I almost fell off my chair the first time I was there and looked through the list of dishes on the chalk board. This is no ordinary tapas bar.

The staff is friendly and enthusiastic, and is happy to help you pick and choose. They work a lot with seasonal ingredients so you can be sure you have the freshest stuff out there. Read my review here.

Els Tres Porquets, Rambla del Poblenou 165.

La Tavernicola

This little Argentinian restaurant looks so small from the outside that if you blink you’ll miss it. But please don’t, go inside! It’s tremendously charming and the food… Oh, the food…

Choosing from the menu is very difficult. Extremely. You'll want it all! If you’re at all familiar with Argentinian food you’ll know that there’ll be excellent quality meat, sausages, provolone, empanadas… And good wines too of course. And you have to leave room for dessert, they are a must. Read my review here.

La Tavernicola, Carrer de Roc Boronat 70.

Dates & Avocados Atelier, C/ de Pere IV, 240.

Can Recasens

Can Recasens is such a lovely restaurant. It manages to keep its wonderful, cozy atmosphere even during busy lunch hours. The restaurant has several different rooms, one cuter than the other, with beautiful tiles on the floor and candles everywhere.

The main items on the menu are cheese-focused, so this is the perfect place if you’re a cheese lover. They have many different cheese assortments to pick from, but they also have warm cheeses, huge salads, and charcuterie boards. The price-quality ratio is excellent.

Can Recasens also has a shop, perfect to stock up on your favorite cheeses and discovering new ones, and get a nice bottle of wine to go with them.

Reservations are a must! Read my review here.

Els Pollos de Llull, Barcelona. Photo © Barcelona Food Experience.

Els Pollos de Llull

Els Pollos de Llull is a Barcelona classic. It’s been around since forever, and they have truly mastered the way the roast their chicken. It’s seriously addictive, and it’s just as delicious even if you have it delivered (places like these are a great resource for a lazy Sunday lunch). They have two locations, one in Poblenou and another location close to Sagrada Familia. They cater for everyone: office workers visiting for lunch, families and big groups in the evenings and weekends, and of course lots and lots of takeaway and delivery.

Els Pollos de Llull have during the years fine-tuned their roasted chicken to perfection. The herbs and spices, the oil and the wine it is made perfectly moist with during the grilling, and the tenderness of the meat. You can choose between different kinds of chicken, one of which is organic. There are obviously great sides too, my personal favorite is the chicken liver skewer that I am obsessed with. But you’ll find other classics such as canelones, croquetas, escalivada, and much more.

Els Pollos de Llull, C/ de Ramon Turró, 13.

It looks a bit like a school lunch room at first sight, you queue for your food and sit down at simple tables and chairs. But who cares? The food is great! The menu (good vegetarian and vegan comfort food) changes every day, and for very little money you get a starter and a main course and you won’t leave hungry. There is dessert too should you be interested, tasty cakes and healthy smoothies and juices. You can also choose to have your food to go. Read my review here.
