Table by Ona - Ephemeral Magic

In an undisclosed location in Poblenou, there is a beautiful space with a table for six. It is called Table by Ona, and it is where Australian-born chef Jack Tonkin prepares 17-course dinners for hungry and curious guests.

There is nothing like this in Barcelona, and knowing that this experience won’t be offered for ever - or even for a substantial length of time - makes it even more necessary to experience. Chef Tonkin is destined for great things: in fact, despite his young age, he has already quite the resumé. For years, he worked at one of Berlin’s internationally most acclaimed restaurants, Ernst, known for its ever-changing menu and nine seats only. Tonkin has brought the same spirit to Table by Ona, serving different menus depending on what is available. No two nights are the same.

The sourcing of the ingredients is a story of itself. He looks for the best produce from as close as possible, to make the experience as local as it can be. He gets up at five in the morning to go to the mountains to find fresh herbs. The stories behind each ingredient are a treat of their own. Even each piece of tableware is unique, and hand made.

Dinner services take place on Friday and Saturday nights, with the option of private dinners on additional dates, as well as collaborations with other chefs. Since there are only six seats, the dinners are intimate - but comfortable, even for the most introverted. Conversations flow easily, and everyone has something in common: the passion and excitement for special moments like these.

In terms of drinks, there’s welcome cocktails, perfect wine pairings, intriguing bottles if you prefer to share, and thrilling options like sake from a 1000-year old brewery. You also have the option of fascinating and beautiful crafted non-alcoholic drinks, including fun fermented creations. Every single detail is so well thought out, it feels like a treasure hunt where you don't have to leave the table.
