Solo Dining in Barcelona
I often the question of where to go for lunch or dinner in Barcelona if you’re by yourself. Sometimes it might feel a bit uncomfortable to dine solo in a place where most people go in pairs or groups, but don’t worry: I’ve got your back! Here is a list of great places to enjoy a nice meal, both casual and top-notch ones.

Suru
One of my favorite restaurants in Barcelona gets chefs coming in to enjoy the latest creations here. I’ve seen solo diners every time I’ve visited, and a seat by the kitchen is perfect: you get a view of all the delicious dishes being prepared. Read my review of Suru here.

Looking for something unique and different? Then head to this semi-secret restaurant that you won't find on a map, and you book by sending a message through Instagram (that’s when you get the address, too). You’re rewarded with comforting Catalan-Italian food made with lots of passion and care in a cozy Eixample apartment, all decorated with vintage items. If you’re going for lunch you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful light seeping in through the windows. Read my review here.

Pompa
You’ll find hundreds and hundreds of different wines in this charming restaurant with a vinyl record player that sets the background music. The food is very, very good, with the most seasonal, local ingredients. The bar seats are coveted: that’s where they prepare the beautiful dishes.
Pompa, Sèneca 25 (Gràcia), Barcelona.

Mikan
Mikan is a fun, young, and vibey restaurant serving North-East Asian food and exciting natural wines. The team is friendly, and the seats by the bar are my favorites. Read my review here.
Mikan, Carrer Aribau 158 (Eixample Esquerra), Barcelona.

Hermòs Bar de Peix
Want to eat inside a food market but not thrilled about the hoards of people in the Boquería market? Then head to this little restaurant in the Mercat de la Llibertat market in Gràcia that simply consists of a few chairs around a stand. The food is excellent and the wines delicious. Read my review here.
Hermòs, Bar de Peix, Plaça de la Llibertat (Gràcia), 08012 Barcelona.

Table by Ona
Table by Ona is one of my all-time favorite experiences when it comes to gastronomy. It is a six-seat only dinner in a secret location, and the number of dishes usually range between 18 and 22. Chef Jack Tonkin creates absolute magic, and it is a privilege to be able to form a part of it. I’ve dined solo here and loved it: it is easy to get chatting with the other guests you’re sharing a table with. Make sure to book well in advance. Read my review here.

Ultramarinos Marin
Another spot where chefs love to dine. They have a restaurant in the back, but I recommend solo diners to make a reservation in the bar, and by the counter if you can. Here they use top-notch ingredients for straightforward but delicious dishes. Read my review here.
Ultramarinos Marin, C/ de Balmes, 187, Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, 08006 Barcelona.
Lluritu, Barcelona. Photo © Barcelona Food Experience.
Lluritu
Lluritu specialises in seafood and has three locations, all slightly different from each other. For a solo diner I recommend the original location in Gràcia on Torrent de les Flors: take a seat close to the kitchen and enjoy a tapa and a caña, or go full out with lots of dishes and a glass or two of wine. Malparit
A fun take on Catalan dishes, in a restaurant space that caters for every kind of diner: families, groups of friends, colleagues, and it is also perfect for solo diners, with both seats at the bar and smaller tables. Read my review here.
Malparit, Carrer de Còrsega, 253, 08036 Barcelona (Eixample Esquerra).
El Rectangle, Barcelona. Photo © Barcelona Food Experience.
El Rectangle
One of the most exciting newcomers on the food scene, El Rectangle does playful small dishes where they fuse the Catalan with international flavours. The best seats in the house are of course at the bar where you can see all the action. Read my review here.
El Rectangle, Carrer de Sepúlveda, 23, 08015 Barcelona (Sant Antoni).

Per Feina Per Plaer
Here good, solid Catalan food is divided into two parts in the menu: something fast and straightforward, and something more elaborate for when you have more time. Grab a seat at the bar if you don’t have a companion and choose your favorites from the menu. Read my review here.
Per Feina Per Plaer, Via Augusta 9, Barcelona (Sarrià-Sant Gervasi).
