Dogla Rum and Snack Bar - A Tiny Caribbean Cocktail Bar That Barcelona Needed

Every so often, a new bar opens in Barcelona and you just know it’s going to become something. Dogla Rum & Snack Bar is one of those places.

It’s tiny with just a few tables, and a handful of seats at the bar. That’s it. It has taken over the former Varmuteo space, but the energy is completely different. Very cozy, intimate, fun, with rum at the center of it all.

And honestly, it already feels like one of the most exciting new cocktail bars in Barcelona.

Rum Done Properly

The drinks here are rum-led, and they take it seriously without turning it into a spectacle.

I tried the Trini Rum Punch first. It was a perfect drink to start with and get into the vibe. Bright and layered, yet balanced. The kind of cocktail that goes down easily but you know there’s work behind it.

The Mai Tai is excellent. The Dogla Daiquiri is sharp and precise. The Dogla & Tonic is straightforward but with exciting notes. Nothing feels gimmicky, just truly like a treat.

They also offer wines by the glass, and beers, if someone in your group wants to switch gears, but rum is really the point.

The Food Is Not a Side Note

This is where Dogla becomes something more than a cocktail bar.

The kitchen is led by Trinidadian chef Kædi George-Newman, whose background includes Tickets, no less. That alone should tell you this is not an afterthought.

We ordered the plantain and a skirt steak sandwich, and both were outstanding, with exciting Caribbean flavors. We even asked for extra bread to scoop up all the delicious sauce, we didn’t want to leave a single drop. We loved the Dogla spicy sauce (habanero based) that gave the dishes an added delicious punch.

This is not bar food. It’s food worth going out for. You could come here for drinks and accidentally have one of the better small meals you’ve had all week.

Tiny Space, Big Personality

Because the bar is so small, the atmosphere surrounds you immediately. You’re close to the action, see the drinks being built, and hear the conversations. The team is friendly and welcoming.

Barcelona’s cocktail scene has grown a lot in recent years, but Dogla feels different. More focused. Less polished in the flashy sense. More about flavor, and fun.

It’s early days, but this is a gem!
