Best Bars in Barcelona

Barcelona is very good at bars.

You can have a beautifully made cocktail in a tiny neighbourhood spot, a glass of natural wine with excellent food, vermouth in a bodega that feels like it has barely changed in decades, craft beer from a local brewery, or a drink above the rooftops with the city below you.

This isn’t a list of every good bar in Barcelona, by any means. These are the places I’d choose when I want something with personality, atmosphere and a reason to go beyond simply ordering a drink.

If you already know what you’re looking for, I also have separate guides to the best cocktail bars, wine bars, natural wine bars, rooftop bars, vermouth bars in Gràcia and craft beer bars.

Planning where to eat and drink around Barcelona?

I’ve put my Barcelona recommendations into one place: my Eating Guide plus a private Google Map with 300+ restaurants, cocktail bars, wine bars, cafés, bakeries and more.

Best Bars in Barcelona

Henry's Bar, Barcelona. Photo © Barcelona Food Experience.

Henry’s Bar

Henry’s calls itself a dive bar, but the cocktails are far more considered than that description suggests. The drinks change regularly, there is good bar food, a sunny terrace and the whole place is cool without trying too hard. It’s also dog-friendly, which is always a bonus. Read my review of Henry’s here.

Carrer de la Llacuna, 92, Poblenou.

Dreamboat Bar & Deli

One of the most fun bars in Poblenou. Dreamboat has playful cocktails, a very friendly atmosphere, good food, and DJs that make it all come together. The interior is full of second-hand finds, and the whole place has personality from top to bottom. Read my review of Dreamboat here.

Carrer de la Llacuna, 136, Poblenou.

Dogla Rum & Snack Bar

Tiny, original and unlike most other cocktail bars in Barcelona. Dogla focuses on rum-based drinks, while chef Kaedi brings Trinidad and Tobago into the food side of things with generous, flavour-packed snacks. Come hungry enough to order something alongside your drink. Read my review of Dogla here.

Carrer de Vilamarí, 2, Sant Antoni.

Best Bars in Barcelona

FoCo

FoCo has become one of my favourites in Gràcia. The cocktails are creative without becoming overly serious, the bar is bright and friendly, and it great regardless if you’re there alone, on a date or meeting friends. There’s also a terrace and regular pop-ups. Read my review of FoCo here.

Carrer de l’Encarnació, 52, Gràcia.

Paradiso Barcelona

Paradiso

One of Barcelona’s most famous cocktail bars for a reason. Hidden behind a pastrami shop in El Born, Paradiso is theatrical, polished and very serious about its drinks. You may have to queue, but if elaborate cocktails and a full experience are what you’re after, this is one of the city’s obvious stops. Read my review of Paradiso here.

Carrer de Rera Palau, 4, El Born.

Masa Vins

Masa is lively, easygoing and very good at making wine feel fun rather than intimidating. There is a big selection by the bottle and glass, plus tasty snacks when hunger kicks in. It gets busy, so going early is usually a good idea. Read my review of Masa Vins here.

Carrer de Pallars, 154, Poblenou.

Pepa Bar A Vins Barcelona

Pepa Bar a Vins

I have a huge soft spot for Pepa Bar a Vins. This former bookstore is now a wonderfully charming wine bar with lovely staff, excellent food and plenty of interesting wines, many available by the glass. Read my review of Pepa here.

Carrer d’Aribau, 41, Eixample Esquerra.

Bandini’s

Bandini’s became a favourite from my first visit. This cosy Sant Antoni tavern has the combination I want from a wine bar: interesting bottles, very good food to share and a friendly atmosphere. Read my review of Bandini’s here.

Carrer de Manso, 42, Sant Antoni.

PimplaVins

Small, busy and full of energy. PimplaVins is one of those places that gets going very quickly in the evening, with natural wines, fun food and a crowd that clearly knows why it’s there. Book or arrive early.

Carrer de l’Encarnació, 21, Gràcia.

Oblicuo Hi-Fi Bar

Barcelona’s hi-fi bar scene has grown quickly, and Oblicuo is one of the places that really puts the music at the centre of the experience. Inspired partly by Japanese jazz kissas, it has a custom high-fidelity sound system, vinyl-focused DJ sessions and a bar serving cocktails, natural wines and sake. Go when you want to listen as much as drink, and check out the different, daily events and DJs. Read my review of Oblicuo here.

Carrer de la Riera de Sant Miquel, 59, Gràcia.

Bodega+Quimet+Barcelona

Bar Bodega Quimet

For a completely different kind of Barcelona bar experience, Bodega Quimet is hard to beat. It was renovated some years ago, but still feels wonderfully old-school. Come for vermouth, conservas, octopus and the kind of atmosphere that newer bars can’t deliver. Read my review of Quimet here.

Carrer de Vic, 23, Gràcia.

Vermuteria del Tano

A classic vermouth stop in Gràcia where all generations seem to mix together. Anchovies, boquerones, gildas and vermouth are exactly what you want to order here. Simple, busy and very Barcelona.

Carrer de Joan Blanques, 17, Gràcia.

Bar Bodega Costa Brava

I’m almost reluctant to include this one because part of its charm is that it still feels like a secret. Old wooden-fronted fridges, vermouth, very down-to-earth, and a true neighbourhood-bar feeling.

Carrer de l’Alzina, 58, Gràcia.

Biercab

A classic for craft beer fans. Biercab has around 30 rotating taps, a serious selection and food to go with it. It’s one of the easiest recommendations on this list if beer is your priority.

Carrer de Muntaner, 55, Eixample Esquerra.

La+Rovira+Barcelona

La Rovira

La Rovira manages to cover all kinds of needs. There are plenty of craft beers, a fridge full of bottles and cans, creative sandwiches and one of my favourite vermouths in the city. It also has a very popular terrace and a wonderfully easygoing neighbourhood feel. Read my review of La Rovira here.

Carrer de Rabassa, 23, Gràcia.

Missa Bar

Friendly, down-to-earth, and good for people who don’t want to choose between beer and wine. Missa has a large selection of local and international craft beers, brews some of its own, and also has good natural wine options and food.

Carrer de Jesús, 16, Gràcia.

Sisi Rooftop Barcelona

SíSí Rooftop

When I want a rooftop for more than just a quick drink, SíSí is a great choice. It has wide city views, a friendly atmosphere and food that goes far beyond the usual rooftop snacks, so you can easily turn sunset drinks into dinner. Read my review of SíSí here.

The Social Hub, Carrer de Cristóbal de Moura, 49, Sant Martí.

Eleven BCN

If the view is the priority, Eleven BCN delivers. It sits high above the centre of the city with very wide views, a good cocktail menu and snacks and small plates if you want something to eat. It’s also walk-in only, which makes it useful when you haven’t planned too far ahead.

NH Collection Gran Hotel Calderón, Rambla de Catalunya, 26, Eixample.

Terraza de Vivi

A more intimate rooftop option in the Gothic Quarter, at the top of Kimpton Vividora. There are cocktails, local small plates and enough comfortable seating to make it work for an afternoon drink, sunset or the start of an evening in the centre.

Kimpton Vividora, Carrer del Duc, 15, Gothic Quarter.
